Set in a small, charming cove and surrounded by high cliffs that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape, Praia dos Carneiros is one of the Algarve’s prettiest beaches.

It’s got a chilled, intimate, relaxed vibe, and so visitors flock here from the surrounding area and quickly fill up this soft, golden patch of sand. And no wonder, because not only is the surrounding scenery beautiful and the sand perfectly soft, but the waters are cool, clean and crystal clear! Swimming is best at high tide, since low tide exposes the rocks which are usually too deep to bother you. Life guards are particularly aware of this threat, and actively monitor the beach at these times.

The facilities are excellent, with sunbeds and parasols of the highest quality – just make sure you get here early enough to grab one! A great fish restaurant with an attached bar and cafe overlooks the beach and is open all year round. There isn’t much to do here except to work on that tan under the warm Mediterranean sun or take a dip in the inviting, crystal clear water. So if you’re restless, you could always head to the ‘Slide and Splash’ water park, which is 15 minutes away by car. Also, you might want to make your way to the nearby town of Lagoa.

It has a picturesque, tree-lined square, perfect for sipping an ice cold beer or a coffee outside a cafe. Algarve’s largest city, Portimao, is also nearby, and offers far more in the way of shopping, bars and restaurants. But it’s unlikely that you’ll want to stray too far from Praia de Carneiros Beach. Why not just laze away in this incubated little cove, or even treat yourself to an authentic Thai message under a cabana!
